Yes, it is likely you can check out an item without a library card.  Just come to the library in person with a valid photo ID that shows your current address.Sarasota County Library Card held in hand

Your library card number may also be visible to see if you have previously set up the "Find Yourself" app or the cloudLibrary app on your phone.

Here's how:  On the "Find Yourself" app, just open it up, click on My Account, and then select Digital Library Card to see the number.  Another benefit of using this app is that the libraries' self-checkout scanners will be able to read the barcode as your library card. (On the cloudLibrary app, your card number appears at the top of the opening home screen.)

If you think you might've lost your card or are unable to find it, please come to any Sarasota County Public Library and ask for a free replacement card. If you think you've lost your card or it has been stolen, it's important to report it right away so that the account can be secured by issuing you a new library card with a new number.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us by phone (941-861-1110), on Ask Us or in person at the library.

  1. How do I know my library card is still valid

  2. Hi Jeannette - thanks for asking! You can give us a call (941-861-1110) or ask in person at the library and we can check to see if your account is still active. We will verify some information on the phone, or you can show us your ID/driver's license if you come to the library. Although we cannot give library account information out (due to privacy), we can at least check on that. If you think you might've lost your card, you can obtain a free replacement which will give you a new account number - and this is recommended since it prevents anyone else from using your card without your permission. I hope that helps! Let us know if we can be of more service, anytime!
