You may place holds or reserves yourself online, or you may call or visit the library and ask library staff to place a hold for you.

To place a hold yourself, you need your library card number and PIN. When you have those handy, follow these steps:

  • Search for the item you would like to reserve in the library catalog.
(Only items listed in the catalog may be placed on hold.)
  • Verify that you've found the item you'd like in the correct format: in print, on CD, in large type, etc.
  • Click the "Request" button for the item you would like to place on hold.
    • Depending on your results list, the button will either be on the right or at the top of the screen. It looks like this: "Request" button from SUNCAT
  • Enter your name, library barcode number and PIN in the appropriate boxes.
  • Click "Submit."
  • Choose a "Pickup Location" (1 of the 9 libraries) from the dropdown list.
  • Click "Submit."
  • Note the message on the screen to verify the request was made.
    • If successful, you'll see: "Your request for [Title/Author] was successful. You will be able to pick up this material at [Pickup Location] when it is ready."
    • If not successful, you'll see "There is a problem with your library record. Please see a librarian." (Unsuccessful requests are often due to having already reached the maximum number of holds allowable at once: 5.)

To request library staff to place a hold for you, please call 941-861-1110 and have your library card number and the name of the item you'd like to request handy.
