Since we are practicing safe materials handling (in accordance with CDC guidelines), you may notice returned items still on your account.  Please give us a few business days to clear these off your record.
If items remain on your record after 3 business days, please call us at 941-861-1110.

Sarasota County Libraries does not charge daily overdue fines for late items. An overdue item will only incur a replacement charge if it is not returned by two weeks after its due date; the charge will be removed when the item is returned. 1. They would be late by then. The library should start supplying return receipts. Patrons have to have equal protection from the borrowing agreement. This is especially true now that there is an immediate billing practice.

  2. Hi Lee, Thank you for taking the time to reach out and comment! We appreciate any feedback that our patrons wish to offer, and would like to do our part to ease any concerns. Late last year we adopted a Fines Free policy, eliminating daily overdue fines on checked out materials. When a material has been overdue for two weeks after its due date, it is at that point when our system will apply a replacement charge for the book; when the book is returned, the charge goes away. No negative actions will affect the account until those two weeks are reached. No need to worry about any immediate billing! Since the libraries are open to the public again, patrons can bring their items in to receive a receipt if desired. I hope this clears things up! - Diego
