Newspapers and magazines may be accessed from the Digital Library page of the Sarasota Library website. On the Digital Library page, you will see all the databases available to Sarasota County Library patrons. Click on the subject area of interest "Newspaper, Magazine, and Journal Articles" to reveal a full list of databases featuring newspaper articles.

Some databases available now are:
  • Florida Digital Newspaper Library
  • Florida Electronic Library
  • Newsbank
  • Newspaper Archive

Google News Archive
The Google News Archive is a free online resource that offers digital copies of various newspapers, including the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. There are over 15,000 issues of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in the Google News Archive, with dates between October 4, 1925 and December 20, 2008. However, some issues are not in the archive and some issues are not complete.

  1. Would be helpful to have home access to archives— even if only a 1 or 2 article limit. Please consider adding this feature. Thnx.

  2. Hi Deb, thank you for your feedback! We will see what we can do when the time comes to renew our contract for the Herald-Tribune database. At this time we are still not offering physical periodicals due to our Covid-19 procedures, but in the meantime, I encourage you to peruse our other available newspaper databases in our Digital Library: https://www.sarasotacountylibraries.org/my-library/digital-library
