As with other library apps, there are times when you need to reset cloudLibrary. A simple way to do this is to uninstall and reinstall the app.  This FAQ will walk you through the process for cloudLibrary, but it is a similar process for most apps.

First, contact the library to ensure your library card is in good standing. (You may see an error message like the screenshot below: "There's a problem with your card; please contact your library for assistance.")

But if there's nothing wrong with your card, try these steps:

1. First, delete the app. On Apple devices, you can do this simply by pressing the icon (app image) on your device until it starts to shake and provides an X, or shows "Delete App" as an option.  Select that option (press X if that is what is showing).  Then confirm with "Yes," when asked if you really want to do this.  (Don't worry - your holds and checked out items will still remain on the cloud and will show up when you reinstall the app.)

2. Go to the App Store and search for "cloudLibrary."  There are a lot of apps out there, so make sure you find the right one - see the screenshot below for cloudLibrary on the Apple App Store. (If using an Android device, go to the Google Play Store.)

3. Download the app. Since you've already done this, look for a 'cloud' with an arrow pointing downward to the right of the app's logo and name. Tap that. (This process is similar on the Google Play Store.)

4. Once downloaded, the next step is to get your account set up again so you can return to your ebooks.  Open the app and follow the prompts. Some will ask if you'd like to receive messages - that's your decision (not necessary).

5. CloudLibrary will verify your location: Select "United States," then "Florida," and "Sarasota County Public Libraries". (See the screenshot).  Press 'Next.'

6. Follow the prompts, accepting the user agreement and putting in your library card number ("barcode"). Use all 14 digits with no spaces.  Then press "Login."

You should now be logged back into your account, and should be able to see your existing checked out items and holds.

Sometimes the phone/tablet's software needs to be updated. On your device, open the Settings app and look for Software Update. On iPhones/iPads, it might be within the General section. Follow the prompts to check for updates and install updates (if necessary). Note: This process may require wifi and/or the phone to be charging.

  1. I had already deleted and reinstalled CL, and my iphone was all up to date. I called CL and left a message but haven't heard back. I called the library and they couldn't help. I do use Libby and that works great for the county library but not the city library.

  2. Thank you for taking a moment to comment! cloudLibrary sometimes has software updates, just like any app. So that's great to uninstall and reinstall the app periodically. You only need to log in with your 14-digit library card number to get going. The Sarasota County Library system does not use Libby (OverDrive); we moved away from that service over 2 years ago in favor of cloudLibrary. A secondary ebook/audiobook service is Hoopla - you may also use Hoopla for free with your current Sarasota County Library card. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any trouble or would like more information at our library's Info Central department: 941-861-1110. We're glad to help!
