Sarasota County volunteer iconThe Sarasota County Libraries are accepting new teen volunteers at various branch locations.  Note that as of January 19, 2024, North Port Library is accepting applications for their Teen Advisory Board..

You must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. We sign off on hours for scholarships and graduation. We do not accept volunteers for court ordered community service.

The positions “teen shelver” and “teen advisory board” are open at most libraries.

Click here for the job descriptions.

Click here for the application link.

Under “opportunity preference” you will need to select the library and position you want. You can be a shelver and serve on Teen Advisory Board; pick one or the other in the application and you can tell the volunteer coordinator later that you would like to do both. You can also talk to the volunteer coordinator if you would like to volunteer at more than one library.

These are the abbreviations for the opportunity preferences:

LEQ- Elsie Quirk Public Library (Shelver only; no Teen Advisory Board)

LFR- Fruitville Public Library

LGG- Gulf Gate Public Library

LJAC- Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library

LNPO- North Port Public Library

LNS- Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Public Library

LSEL- Selby Public Library

LSS- Shannon Staub Public Library

LVEN- William H. Jervey, Jr. Venice Public Library

Once you complete the application, it will take up to three weeks for a background check to process. Then the volunteer coordinator will email or call you to set up training and have you complete the rest of your paperwork. Your training time will count as volunteer hours.
