Thank you for thinking of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources for your book. We would love to accept your donation, however, we first need to make sure your item meets our criteria for selection. Please note, due to the recent hurricane season our collections service has slowed down, item processing is taking longer than usual but we hope to be back on our feet soon.

Selection Criteria for Donations/Purchases:

  • Accuracy of information
  • Significance of subject matter
  • Potential use by patrons
  • Cost
  • Critical reviews
  • Local interest
  • Popular demand/current trends
  • Availability
  • Literary merit/artistic quality
  • Relationship to other materials

To assist the Collection Development Librarians in this process, please include:

  • Published reviews or evaluations of the book.
  • Information on ordering sources.
  • Your contact information (phone number and return address).
  • If the book is not added to the collection it will be returned.
  • The Library system has a “floating collection” which means that the materials are part of the general collection and do not remain in a specific library’s collection.
  • For more information on the Collection Development Policies, please look here: Collection Development Policy
