You can cancel a hold online, or you may ask library staff to cancel an item for you in person, on the phone (941-861-1110) or through Ask Us (chat, text or email).

Holds can be cancelled at any time, just as long as they are not "in transit" or "ready for pickup."

To cancel a hold yourself, you will need your 14-digit library card number and PIN.

How to cancel a hold online (Enhanced Catalog):

  1. Go to the Library Catalog and in the upper right of your screen, login to your account with your library card number and PIN.
  2. After logging in, either click on your name in the upper right corner of your screen and click on your name underneath the person icon or click on My Bookshelf in the bottom left-hand corner.
  3. You will be redirected to My Bookshelf. Select Holds, which is the second tab.
  4. To cancel a hold, click on the Cancel Hold button.
  5. When asked if you'd like to confirm with cancelling your hold, click Cancel Hold to continue.

How to cancel a hold through the Sarasota County Library App:

  1. Open the app by clicking on the "Find Yourself at the Library" icon.
  2. Select My Library Account.
  3. Select My Holds.
  4. To cancel a hold, select the Manage button.
  5. Select Cancel Item(s) to confirm the cancellation. A pop up will appear in your app to let you know that it was a Success.

  5. The item will temporarily still appear within your Holds/Requests, but will display the status "Cancelled".
