There are a couple of ways to find new items: Through the Library Catalog and on the shelf at the Sarasota Libraries locations. Please keep in mind that the designation of "new" can be books that are newly published, as well as older items that are newly added to the collection.

Finding what's new by searching the Library Catalog:

Follow these steps to find lists of New Fiction, Nonfiction, DVDs, and other items:

  1. Go to the Library Catalog

  2. Featured on the Library Catalog Homepage are lists for:
  • New Fiction for Adults
  • New Nonfiction for Adults
  • New Blu-Ray and DVDs

  1. When you click on one of these lists, it will redirect you to a Library List of new materials. For example, clicking on New Fiction for Adults will lead to:

Refine Results: Searching with the *

Another way to search for New Materials is by typing * in the search field and using the Refine Results Tab on the left-hand side of the catalog:

  • Adjust the Date to the past year and current year (2024-2025)
  • Select Format (Large Print, Book, Audiobook, DVD)
  • Select Age Group (Adult, Juvenile, Primary, Preteen, Teen, Preschool)
  • Select Literary Form (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Novels, Short Stories)

Remember to select the blue Apply Button to apply changes and view refine results (as seen below).

Find What's New by browsing the shelf while at the library:

Each library has designated shelves for the newest arrivals. Books are shelved in the New Book area for approximately 6 months then moved to regular Fiction and Nonfiction shelves. New items are separated by type, such as New Fiction, New Large Print Fiction, New Nonfiction, New Biographies, and so on.
