What is a PC Access Card?
As of May 12, 2025, all library patrons who regularly use our public PCs will need to have a library card. If they do not want a card with full borrowing privileges, they can apply for a PC Access Card.
If I already have a library card, do I need a PC Access Card?
No; a library card provides everything a PC Access Card provides plus borrowing privileges. A PC Access Card only provides access to library computers and printing/copying.
Can I check out books or use online resources with the PC Access Card?
No, you cannot check out physical materials with a PC Access Card. Online resources are only available when using a in-library computer.
How do I get a PC Access Card? Do I need ID or an application?
Adults can get a PC Access Card at any Sarasota County library with minimal information. Juveniles and young adults need a parent or guardian to complete a full youth library card application and designate it as PC Access only.
Do I need to be a Sarasota resident to receive a PC Access Card?
No, you may sign up for a PC Access Card as a resident or non-resident.
How long are PC Access Cards good for?
PC Access Cards expire after twelve months (1 year).
What about visitor/guest passes?
The visitor pass (previously called guest pass) is for one-time visitors.
What are the benefits of a PC Access Card?
PC Access Cards offer convenience for patrons who do not have a library card but make consistent use of library computers and printing services. Signup is quick and easy, and the card eliminates the need to ask for a visitor pass daily; just walk up to an available computer and log in. With a PC Access Card you can also release copies and prints on your own with the self-service stations.
You can also add the PC Access Card to the Sarasota County Libraries app or to your digital wallet for even more convenience.
