Sarasota County Libraries is happy to welcome anyone who wishes to volunteer! We are currently accepting volunteers for the following opportunities: Shelver, Teen Shelver, and Teen Advisory Board. Volunteers will need to submit an application via our online Volunteer Application.
If you are interested in volunteering and would like more information, you can find out more about all volunteer opportunities in Sarasota County on the main Volunteer Sarasota County web page. You can view a list of all the current volunteer opportunities in the county at Volunteer Sarasota County Opportunities webpage.
If you would like to inquire about existing volunteer opportunities at specific libraries, you can reach out directly to the volunteer coordinators for each branch location. Teenagers who are looking for volunteer opportunities for high school must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Closure Notice
Fruitville Renovation
Renovations and expansion building works will be happening at Fruitville Library, which will require Fruitville Library to temporarily close on Dec. 18. The reimagined library is scheduled to reopen in July 2026.
Holds Pickup Interruption at Fruitville Library
With the closure of the Fruitville Library, there will be a brief period over the holidays when you will be unable to pick up your holds.
To ensure you receive your long-awaited items, please pick them up by 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Our portable library pickup option will be available in early January.
If you prefer, you may also change your hold pickup location to another library before that date. If you need assistance updating your pickup location, please call 941-861-1110.
